Jennie Lake
September 21-22, 2007

A pretty, but not particularly noteworthy lake at the base of Wolf Mountain, off Crooked River road, and drained by Bear Creek.

Interestingly, somewhere I got the impression that Jennie Lake was one of those destinations that you hiked to
if you were a "lightweight" hiker. Not so. With a 4.6 mile distance, and a 1940 foot altitude gain, this is a serious
hike. And that doesn't even tell the whole story. For the first couple of miles, it goes up quite markedly to be sure, but
it has any number of "back downs" so for a while it seems like you are on a roller coaster.

September turned out to be a good time to visit, as I had the lake to myself. And Friday turned out to be one of the most
spectacular hiking days this year. The good news ends there. It began to rain around 4 AM, and I had to pack up and
hike out in very damp conditions.

A pretty trail once you get past the serious climbing!

The alpenglow at the end of the day was breathtaking!
